Sani Pass Day Tour – A Journey Through History, Culture & Altitude
Join us for a full-day Sani Pass adventure, a scenic and cultural journey through one of Southern Africa’s most iconic and dramatic mountain passes.
Travel in a 4×4 vehicle as we ascend to an impressive 2,874 metres above sea level, navigating the historic 8 km pass that climbs steeply from the South African border post to the Lesotho frontier. Originally a trading route for pack mules, this narrow gravel road is now famous for its hairpin bends, rugged terrain, and breathtaking alpine views.
At the top, we cross into Lesotho, where you’ll gain insight into Basotho culture with a visit to a traditional mountain village. Engage with local community members and learn about their way of life in one of Africa’s most remote highland regions. (OPTIONAL)
No Sani Pass experience is complete without a stop at the “Highest Pub in Africa,” perched at 2,874m — a truly unique spot to enjoy a drink and take in panoramic views over the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg World Heritage Site.
This leisurely yet adventurous tour is suitable for all ages and can be tailored to suit your group’s interests and budget, whether you’re after culture, scenery, photography, or simply a day out on one of Africa’s most thrilling mountain roads.
